During my one-month exchange program at the University of Western Australia, the warmth of my host family, the rigour of laboratory work, and the unique spirit of this land combined to form a lifelong transformative journey of growth. A month is short-it feels as if I only arrived in Perth yesterday. Yet it is also long enough to reshape how I see the world. I am grateful to my home university for this precious opportunity, to every supervisor for their thoughtful guidance, to my host family for their warm welcome, and to myself for bravely stepping out of my comfort zone. This experience brought me not only expertise and research methods, but also a more open, composed attitude towards life, with greater empathy and understanding for others. The bright sunshine of Perth will stay forever in my memory, reminding me that the world is vast — worth exploring, experiencing and understanding step by step.

The Perth immersion gave me something an online session never quite manages. Sitting in the room, in front of the professor rather than a screen, changed how much of each lecture actually stayed with me. Concepts I had read about for months finally made sense once I heard them explained in person, by people who clearly loved the subject they were teaching, with real examples and real time to sit with a difficult idea before moving on.
Alongside the learning, I finally met the classmates I had spent months studying with online. Faces I recognised from video calls became actual colleagues over shared meals and long conversations between sessions, and that feeling only deepened outside the classroom. An afternoon at Caversham Wildlife Park, holding a koala and getting far too close to a kangaroo, and an evening at a Swan Valley vineyard, glass in hand as the sun went down over the vines, did more for our cohort than any icebreaker could have. Those are the moments I actually remember most clearly.
The Crawley campus was its own quiet gift, calm and unhurried, the kind of place that made it easy to focus and reflect after a full day of classes. I left Perth with sharper thinking, friendships I intend to keep, and a real fondness for a university and a city I had, until then, only known through a screen.

Studying in Perth is absolutely a wonderful experience, especially for people like me who had never been to a foreign country before. Spending time in an entirely new environment is impressive, wonderful and thrilling at the same time. My friend and I even met the sea for the first time, and its vastness and its shade of dark blue left us with an unforgettable impression. I watched the sun set, enjoyed the summer breeze and collected beautiful seashells. Everything was so great!

The one-month journey slipped by in the blink of an eye, yet it left a vivid and lasting impression on me. The first week of classes felt like opening a new window: from understanding the pathways to becoming a GP or specialist in Australia, to grasping the logic behind designing and implementing clinical trials, and mastering the skills of academic writing and responding to editorial comments. Each topic offered me a more dynamic perspective on the diverse dimensions of the medical field. Beyond the classroom, the laboratory practice was another fascinating exploration. Here, I not only learned how to conceive basic experimental designs, execute procedures rigorously, but also developed a systematic approach to analyzing results. Those questions and insights that emerged during hands-on operations turned abstract theories into tangible knowledge. The gains of this journey extended far beyond academics. Daily chats with my homestay family not only polished my spoken English in a relaxed atmosphere but also served as a key to unlocking the fabric of Australian life, letting me perceive the inclusiveness and warmth in local culture. Whether through exchanges during study breaks or weekend trips with peers, I was fortunate to make many like-minded friends. The scenic views along the way and encounters with Australia’s unique wildlife added unexpected joy and warmth to this experience.

Perth is a city where sunlight perpetually embraces the sea. During my month at The University of Western Australia, I was granted the rare privilege of advancing my medical knowledge while simultaneously immersing myself in the region’s distinctive cultural tapestry and its vast, luminous landscapes. Beyond the rigors of our research project, the daily practice of English polished both my diction and my confidence; more importantly, the collaborative spirit of the laboratory and the shared dreams of my peers forged friendships that transcend continents. Through interdisciplinary teamwork I refined my communicative agility and sharpened my capacity to resolve complex, real-world problems. I extend my deepest gratitude to my university and to every mentor whose guidance made it possible not merely to arrive in Western Australia, but to inhabit its narratives, to walk its salt-tinged winds, and to understand its singular heartbeat.

I was eager to immerse myself in a new academic environment and culture. Perth captivated me with its vibrant city life and stunning natural beauty. My favorite activity was the group project at the lab, where I not only learned but also formed lasting friendships. This experience has made me feel incredibly connected to the UWA community, and I am grateful for the support and camaraderie I found here. The Study Tour Program exceeded my expectations, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a transformative educational journey.

During the four-week project, I attended lectures on the Australian healthcare system, doctor-patient communication, medical ethics, and clinical paper writing. I also participated in research projects and completed the weekly tasks assigned by the professor. Friendly UWA teachers offered clear guidance and genuine encouragement. The beautiful scenery and cultural atmosphere of Perth provided an ideal backdrop for our studies. After the project ended, I left with new knowledge, wonderful memories, and nice friendship.

This winter school was a treasure for academic and cultural growth. Week 1 lectures cleared up Aussie medical career paths and thesis - writing steps. Then, three weeks in Prof. Yuan Jun’s lab let me sharpen research skills with his great guidance. Outside study, strolling serene beaches and sunny parks balanced things nicely. Mixing hard - core learning and fun explorations, it made me value diverse science and life approaches more - such unforgettable memories.

I really enjoyed the scenery in Perth. It has a peaceful, unique beauty with its clear blue skies and endless desert. During the trip, we had plenty of close contact with nature. We felt the cool waves on our feet, got sand blown into our clothes, and interacted with Australian animals like kangaroos, koalas, and snakes at the zoo. Sitting under a tree and watching seagulls fly by, I appreciated how the natural landscape here feels intact and full of pure life.

Guangdong Medical University Microbial Marvels: Unveiling the Hidden Frenemies January 2024
I did the program with six other girls from Guangdong Medical University. We went from being total strangers to living together for almost a month. We cooked in the dorm, grilled steaks, spent weekends playing billiards, went for city walks, and watched fireworks together on the Australia Day. I also made friends from Soochow University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, which I feel incredibly grateful for!
